  1. Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM). This notice must be lodged 30 days prior to your wedding date but no later than 18 months in advance.
  2. You must be 18 years or older and not already legally married.
  3. You must have two witnesses at your marriage who are both over the age of 18 years and able to understand English (if required appoint an interpreter).
  4. Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage (DNLI) is to be completed just prior to the ceremony.
  5. On the day of the marriage there are verbal legalities incorporated into the service and legal paperwork to sign.
What do we do with our guests immediately after the ceremony?

If you are having formal photographs taken after the ceremony it is appropriate that you look after your guests with refreshments during that time and until the reception commences. As your celebrant I will provide your guests with information and guidance on what to do immediately after the ceremony.

How do we manage photos during and after the ceremony?

It is your right as a couple to determine how photographs are taken and distributed.  You may be very happy for people to take photos and post them during the ceremony or you may ask guests to hold off until after the ceremony, or even the next day.  Or you may request no photographs be shared at all.

What will it cost to engage a celebrant?

The cost of a celebrant depends on many factors as there are hundreds of details that contribute to a good ceremony; the time a celebrant needs to spend providing resources, writing vows and love stories, creating the script for the ceremony, rehearsals, equipment provision and liaising with other service providers, to name a few!  Additionally, consider the skills and experience a qualified and knowledgeable celebrant provides, what you want to make your wedding day ‘that’ special moment in your life, will also determine the associated costs.  I provide a detailed quotation to a couple as part of their decision making.

How will we know what to do during the ceremony?

As your celebrant I will guide the flow of the ceremony and assist you both with what to say and when. I will provide a detailed script of every moment of the ceremony for you to check and approve prior to the ceremony.

How long does a ceremony go for?

It depends on the elements the couple wish to include in their ceremony.  An indication of appropriate timing is 35-45 minutes. This allows enough time for the ceremony to have meaning and gravitas but not so long that everyone starts to get restless and tune out.  A quick ‘legals only’ ceremony can be done in around 10 minutes.

Should we have a rehearsal?

It is not mandatory to have a rehearsal; however, it is recommended that couples have a rehearsal prior to the wedding day. This will ensure everyone knows their part and will feel confident on the day of the wedding.  As your celebrant I can lead you through your vows if you are nervous about speaking in public or concerned about getting something wrong.

Do we need a marriage licence?

No.  In Australia all that is required is the NOIM, the Declaration of No Legal Impediment (DNLI) and the official marriage certificates.

Will you take care of all the paperwork and documentation?

Yes!  That is an important element of the marriage process and the responsibility of the celebrant to complete and lodge all documentation.

How far in advance do we need to book?

The required documentation - Notice of Intention to Marry (NOIM) must be lodged 30 days prior to your wedding date but no later than 18 months in advance.

What must we include in the ceremony?

There are only two mandatory sections to a legal marriage ceremony in Australia; the Monitum and the Vows. As your celebrant I will guide you through those sections and ensure they are incorporated into your ceremony in an appropriate and legal manner.

What makes a great wedding ceremony?

A great ceremony celebrates the couple and their commitment to each other.  A great ceremony tells wonderful stories about the couple and allows their personalities to shine. Collaboration and communication are vital in design and planning of the ceremony to ensure everything is just as the couple want it to be.  As your celebrant I will guide you through your ceremony design.
